Antennas // 15m Band
15m Antennas.
When the sunspots deliver, 21 MHz is electric — long-path mornings, short-path afternoons and worldwide DX on modest power.
The 15m band is a solar-cycle instrument. Through the quiet years it opens in flashes; as the cycle climbs, 21 MHz becomes one of the most rewarding bands there is — long-path openings into the Pacific in the morning, short-path runs into North America all afternoon, and signal strengths that make 100 watts feel like a kilowatt. Contest weekends on a good 15m day are some of the fastest operating in the hobby.
Because openings can be brief, the antenna has to make the most of them. Our 15m Yagis carry the LFA's trademark front-to-back and low-noise receive so weak openings are heard early, and enough clean gain to hold a run frequency once the band is properly open. Designs range from three-element beams to long-boom arrays for multi-multi contest stations.
