Antennas // 8m Band

8m Antennas.

The 40 MHz frontier — 8m sits squarely between 10m and 6m, and a growing list of countries now issue permits to explore it.

The 8m band is amateur radio's newest frontier. Sitting at 40 MHz, halfway between 10m and the Magic Band, it is a scientifically fascinating slice of spectrum: sporadic-E appears here before it reaches 50 MHz, and 8m observations feed directly into propagation research linking the HF and VHF worlds. Ireland led the way with a formal allocation, and experimental permits have followed in a steadily growing list of countries.

Operating on a band this new means building for it — there is no decades-old surplus market at 40 MHz. InnovAntennas was among the first manufacturers to produce commercial 8m Yagis, applying the same LFA low-noise architecture proven on 6m to a band where every worked path is still a small piece of history.
